Byrd finishes fifth in pole bending at National Junior High Finals Rodeo in Georgia

Humboldt County’s Huntley Byrd turned in a fifth-place finish in pole bending at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo that concluded on Saturday night in Perry, Ga.

Byrd place fourth in her first performance on Monday, June 19, with a time of 20.852 seconds. That was good enough for her to finish 20th in the go-around.

She won her performance of pole bending on Friday, June 23, at 20.033 and placed third in the second goa-round. 

In the short go-around this past Saturday night, Byrd was fifth in a time of 19.928. 

Her total average was 60.813, good enough for fifth overall. Kinley Follman from North Dakota won with an average of 59.981. Grace Snyder from Oklahoma was second at 60.260 and Quil Filippini from Eureka, NV., placed third with a time of 60.542.

Byrd also earned a top-20 finish in girls breakaway roping. She placed fifth in her performance on Wednesday morning (June 21) at 3.5 seconds and placed 25th in the first go-around. In her second run later that night, she placed eighth at 4.09 and was 45th in the go-around.  He total average was 7.59 to place her 18th.

Huntley Byrd and Lane Byrd placed 65th in the average in team roping. The duo placed ninth in the Tuesday morning performance (June 20), stopping the clock at 24.2 to place ninth. They were 40th in the first performance. They did not have a time on the second go-around.

Lane Byrd placed 52nd in tie roping, after recording no time in the first performance. 

He came back in the Friday morning performance to place sixth with a time of 19.6 and he was 35th in the second go-around.

Louise DeLong placed 45th in the pole bending average with a time of 43.641 seconds. 

DeLong placed 17th in the Wednesday morning performance (June 21) at 22.3 and improved to 21.341 in the second go-around late that night.

DeLong and Eureka’s Henry Buchanan were 78th in ribbon roping. They recorded no time in the first performance and were ninth in the Saturday morning performance (June 24) at 15.64.

Logan Marshall finished 85th in chute dogging with an average of 32.95 seconds. 

He placed seventh in the Monday morning performance (June 19) with a time of 7.88 seconds and was 50th in the first go-around. He posted a time of 24.97 in the second go-around.

In the rifle shoot, Hazen Root placed 45th and Wyatt Thomas was 83rd.
