Nevada volleyball announces 2023 schedule


RENO – The Nevada volleyball has  released its 2023 schedule.

“I am very excited about this year’s schedule,” said head coach Lee Nelson. “During the preseason, we play three power five schools as well as some of the perennial best of the Big West and Big Sky in Cal Poly and Sacramento State. We’ll get tested early and often, which should be great preparation for a strong season in the always competitive Mountain West.”

The Wolf Pack begins the 2023 campaign with nine consecutive road matches spread across three invitationals, starting with the Sacramento State Invitational. 

Nevada’s home opener at Virginia Street Gym will take place Thursday, Sept. 14, against Montana State at 6 p.m. with the Nevada Invitational. 

The Wolf Pack will round out the weekend Saturday, Sept. 16, at 1 p.m. versus California.

Beginning its season at the Sacramento State Invitational August 25-27, the squad will take on host Sacramento State Friday, Aug. 25, at 7 p.m. 

The next day, Nevada will go against Cal Poly at 4:30 p.m., and will wrap the weekend Sunday, Aug. 27, against Iowa at 1 p.m.

Nevada will then travel to Cheney, Wash. for the Eastern Washington Invitational with a doubleheader Friday, Sep. 1, against Pacific at 10 a.m., followed by a matchup against the host Eagles at 7 p.m. 

The Wolf Pack will finish out its second road tournament the next day, facing Seattle at 11 a.m.

The following weekend, the Wolf Pack will travel to Riverside, Calif. for the Cal Baptist Invitational from Sept. 8-9. 

Nevada opens with a Friday doubleheader against Oregon State at 11 a.m., followed by a match versus UC Riverside, finishing the weekend against Cal Baptist on Saturday. Times for the matches against UC Riverside and Cal Baptist are TBA.

Following the Nevada Invitational Sept. 14-16, the Wolf Pack will begin the Mountain West portion of its schedule with three in a row at home. Conference play begins Sept. 21 against New Mexico at 6 p.m., Sept. 23 at 12 p.m. against Air Force, and Sept. 26 versus Fresno State.

The team will travel for three consecutive road games beginning Sept. 28 against San Jose State, followed by match-ups versus Utah State Oct. 5, and Boise State Oct. 7 before returning home to Virginia Street Gym for a Silver State Series presented by First America Credit Union match-up with UNLV Thursday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m., and San Diego State Saturday, Oct. 14 at 12 p.m.

 For the remainder of the season, the Pack will travel for six more road games and host four more at home. 

The squad go back on the road Oct. 19, taking on Wyoming before traveling to Fresno State Oct. 24. 

The remaining away matches include facing San Diego State Nov. 2, UNLV Nov. 4, Air Force Nov. 9, and wrapping the road stretch Nov. 11 at New Mexico.

The last four home matches of the season start off Oct. 21 against Colorado State at 12 p.m. 

The Wolf Pack returns home after facing Fresno State on Oct. 28 versus San Jose State at 1 p.m. 

After the four straight road matches from Nov. 2-11, Nevada wraps their season at home, hosting the Boise State Broncos Thursday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. and Utah State Saturday, Nov. 18 at 1p.m.

The top six teams in the conference standings will advance to the Mountain West Championship, scheduled for Nov. 22-24 in Las Vegas.
