National High School Finals Rodeo starts Sunday in Wyoming


The National High School Finals Rodeo begins Sunday in Gilette, Wyo., and concludes on June 22. A handful of Humboldt County and Battle Mountain cowboys and cowgirls will be competing.

Humboldt County’s Billy DeLong, the all-around cowboys for the state of Nevada, will compete in four events.

DeLong has performances on July 16 and July 22 in tie-down roping, July 17 and July 21 in saddle bronc, July 18 and July 20 and he will compete in two performances of cutting on July 19.

Matti DeLong qualified in girls cutting and will be in the arena on July 18 and 20. 

Brynn Barto will make her two runs in barrel racing on July 16 and July 20. Ashley Rookstool qualified in girls cutting and both of her performances are on July 19.

Humboldt County’s Kayleigh Marshall will compete in the queen contest.

Battle Mountain’s Desi Coombs qualified in breakaway roping and will make both runs on July 19.

Italy Jo Holman will take on the pole bending course on July 16 and July 22 and Flint Schacht competes in bull riding on July 18 and July 20     

Amelia Lancaster qualified in pole bending and will make her runs on July 18 and July 20. Eli Lancaster qualified in boys cutting and his performances are July 16 and July 22.
