Father Time caught up with our beloved, Lino Matteoni, 96, on January 19, 2023, at Humboldt General Hospital.
He was born on December 20, 1926, to Cesare and Eufemia Matteoni.
He was born in Battle Mountain, Nevada and moved to Winnemucca at a very young age. He was a proud resident of Winnemucca for over 90 years.
Lino worked at Bob Jeanney’s Chevrolet as a young man. He joined the United States Navy in 1944 and served until 1946 during World War II.
After an honorable discharge, he returned home and went back to work for Bob Jeanney’s Chevrolet.
He was then hired at Western Pacific Railroad in 1952 as a Locomotive Engineer, he then worked for Union Pacific Railroad when it acquired WP in 1982 and retired in 1991 after 40 years.
Lino had two children of his own, Lino Frank Matteoni Jr. and Linda Joy Bergmeier and two stepsons, Wade F Woodson and James R. Woodson. His greatest devotion was his loving wife, Lola. Lola and Lino shared 47 years together.
Lino’s hobby was his lawn – taking meticulous care every year. His truck was his pride and joy especially after his retirement.
He always kept his lawn and cars immaculate. He always said he wasn’t educated but he always gave the greatest advice.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lola Matteoni. His son, Lino F. Matteoni Jr and his two stepsons, Wade F. Woodson and JameS (Jennifer) R. Woodson.
His grandchildren, Gino (Leslie) Matteoni, Toby (Kaitlin) Stephen, Ashton, Cody and Kira Woodson, and Carissa, Katy and Bailey Woodson.
His great-grandchildren, Téa, Arlando, Corbin, Dasan, Cael, and Camila. He is also survived by his ex-daughter-in-law, Barbara Pepin, niece, Sharon Smeltzer and nephew, Doug Jones.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cesare and Eufemia Matteoni, his brother, Gino Matteoni, his sister, Lena Martin and his daughter, Linda Bergmeier.
