Peggy Shields Stout passed away on January 16, 2023 after a long battle with progressive supranuclear palsy.
Peggy was born in Oroville, CA on April 9, 1947 and moved to Winnemucca NV at an early age when adopted by her father Art Shields.
Peggy graduated from Humboldt High School and began a long career in law enforcement in 1969.
Peggy began as a matron/dispatcher for the Humboldt County Sheriffs department and became a dispatcher for the Nevada Highway Patrol in Elko then Reno.
As a dispatcher Peggy became president of the NHP association and in 1980 became the first woman to graduate from the NHP Academy.
Also, in 1980 Peggy married the love of her live Larry Stout. Peggy worked for several law enforcement agencies and retired in 1996 as a patrol officer for the Sparks Police Department.
Peggy was a can do and no nonsense officer but also the most kind, most loving, and generous individual for family and friends.
Peggy enjoyed ancestry and spent 10 years traveling in an RV until she became ill.
Peggy is survived by her husband Larry, brothers Bo Shields of Winnemucca, Mike Shields of Elko and numerous nieces.
There will be a celebration of life for Peggy on February 17 at the Tamarack Casino in Reno at 1p.m.
