Pershing County High School sent six wrestlers to the Spring Creek Kiwanis Invitational Tournament last weekend.
“It was their toughest match of the season so we were excited for the challenge,” said coach Mike Brooks.
Pershing County’s wrestlers included Xavier Weatherman at 120 pounds, Tavis Lawrence (132), Jeffrey Elerick (132), Angelo Gibson (132), Wyatt Hughes (157) and Logan Hunt (215).
Elerick and Hughes finish one match from placing
Elerick dropped his first match to the eventual third-place winner, Dominic Alcantara of Caldwell.
“However, Jeff reeled off four straight wins and defeated some tough opponents,” said Brooks.
Elerick beat wrestlers from Moapa Valley (Fall 2:35), Lowry Blue (Dec 4-1), Virgin Valley (Dec 10-6) and Damonte Ranch (Fall 2:59).
Wyatt Hughes dropped his second match of the day to the eventual sixth place winner, Aaron Despain of Wesler (Fall 2:34). But Hughes beat wrestlers from Reed (Fall 0:30) and Fallon (Fall 1:34).
