Even though they are different teams this year, the Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team knocked off Incline 50-26, the reigning 2A state champions, this past weekend in Incline Village.
The Highlanders went undefeated a season ago and beat the Lady Longhorns in the 2A regional championship.
Battle Mountain was able to avenge that loss and improve to 3-0 in league play and 8-4 overall.
The Lady Longhorns’ Christina Holley nearly outscored the Highlanders by herself with 20 points on the night.
The senior added 11 rebounds for a double-double to go with five steals and a block.
Fellow senior, Aylea Ramos added 13 points and three blocks.
Battle Mountain jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter at 16-6 and put the contest out of reach with a 17-3 spurt in the third quarter to lead 40-16.
Lilliana Haney added five points, Lindsey Bleak four, Jolena Ayers three, Shea Jones and Thalia Gonzalez two each and Hadlee Bauer had one point.
Ayers collected six rebounds and Bailey Elderkin and Bleak each grabbed four rebounds. Haney and Gonzalez each had three steals.
Battle Mountain was scheduled to play at North Tahoe on Saturday afternoon but was postponed to due to poor weather conditions.
The game will be made up on Saturday, Feb. 11, in Tahoe City, Calif.
North Tahoe leads the Northern 2A at 4-0, followed by Battle Mountain (3-0), Pershing County (4-1) and West Wendover (2-1). Yerington is fifth at 2-3 and Incline sits in sixth at 1-3.
The top six teams qualify for the Northern 2A Regional Championships on Feb. 16-18 @ Incline High School. The top two seeds receive first-round byes.
Battle Mountain hosted West Wendover on Tuesday and results were not available at press time.
The Lady Longhorns are back home Friday to play Coral Academy at 6 p.m. and Pershing County on Saturday at 2 p.m.
