Editor’s Note: During the calendar year 2022, the Humboldt County District Attorney was Mike Macdonald, with Kevin Pasquale serving as Chief Deputy DA. Pasquale won the 2022 general election and took the helm of District Attorney in 2023. It appears - according to documents - that Macdonald has been named the Chief Deputy District Attorney.

In the case of Elisabeth Oata Brown, charged with fail or refuse to surrender suspended, cancelled or revoked reg card or license plate: chief deputy DA Mike Macdonald discussed the matter with the defendant off the record. The DA dismissed the citation.

In the case of Terry Gene Kelly, charged with disturbing the peace: Chief Deputy DA Mike Macdonald discussed it off the record. Citation dismissed by DA.



Dec. 28

In the case of Michelle Rose Kimsey, charged with two counts petit larceny: fined $1,140 converted to jail time and given credit for time served. Defendant is permanently trespassed from all Walmart locations.

In the case of Michelle Rose Kimsey, charged with petit larceny: fined $1,140 suspended for two years on condition of no new like violations. Defendant is ordered to pay restitution to Pilot Travel Center in the amount of $155.88 by Feb. 1.

In the case of Michelle Rose Kimsey, charged with petit larceny: fined $1,140 converted to jail time with credit for time served. Victim impact statement given by Walmart personnel. Defendant is permanently trespassed from all Walmart locations.

In the case of Jaylon Ray Cano, charged with failure to stop or yield when entering a marked intersection: DA Mike Macdonald discussed the matter with the defendant off the record. Due to insufficient evidence, DA dismissed the citation.

In the case of Hanna Urtiz, charged with 1. Battery, 2. Tampering with a motor vehicle: defendant presented a total amount of $309 cash owed in restitution to the victim, which was counted and exchanged in open court by the DA Mike Macdonald pursuant to negotiation. Defendant satisfied the terms of the agreement and the DA moved to dismiss the case. Defendant withdrew her guilty plea and the court accepted the dismissal.



Dec. 21

In the case of Aaron Granger, charged with breach of peace: pleaded guilty and was fined $355 with credit for one day served leaving $205 remaining, suspended for 12 months on condition of no like violations and continue to attend AA meetings.
