Dr. Shouping Li returns to Winnemucca with full-time family practice

WINNEMUCCA — Dr. Shouping Li served Humboldt County’s residents for 12 years as a member of Humboldt General Hospital’s medical staff. 


Now, Dr. Li has returned to Winnemucca to serve the community as a full-time private practice family physician, providing well-care, sick-care and chronic-care management to both children and adults.


“I have wanted to come back to Winnemucca for a long time,” said Dr. Li. “I am excited to be able to serve our community again.”


Dr. Li shares clinic space with Dr. Charles Stringham at 50 E. Haskell Street, Suite A. He is available for appointments from Tuesday 


through Friday; walk-in patients are also welcome for well care visits, urgent care and mild injuries.


Dr. Li arrives in Winnemucca with an extensive medical background. He graduated from medical school in China in 1984, followed by a residency in internal medicine from 1984 through 1987; from 1987 to 1988, he was chief resident in internal medicine at the Xuzhou Medical College in China.


In 1992, he completed a 4-year Ph.D. program in Cardiovascular Imaging from the Chinese 


Academy of Medical Sciences. During that time, Dr. Li was a cardiology fellow at the Cardiovascular Institute and Fu Wai Hospital.


From 1992 through 1994, Dr. Li was an assistant professor and cardiologist at the Cardiovascular Institute and Fu Wai Hospital before being promoted to associate professor of medicine and cardiologist from 1994 to 1995.


In 1995, Dr. Li traveled to the United States as a cardiology research instructor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. In 1999, he was granted a permanent immigrant visa due to his status as a “First Preference Outstanding Researcher” by the U.S. In November 2006, he became a U.S. citizen. 


After moving to the United States, Dr. Li also completed a family practice residency at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Lincoln. He is triple-Board Certified in Family Medicine, Hospital Medicine, and Echocardiography.


Dr. Li is registered as a cardiac sonographer for both pediatric and adult sonography. Among his many awards and achievements, Dr. Li was awarded the very prestigious “Prize of Scientific and Technologic Achievement” by the Ministry of Public Health in China for his echocardiographic research.


Dr. Li treats patients ranging from infants to the elderly. “I’m here to serve the community,” he said. “I can treat everyone from a baby’s first visit all the way to those with thick, thick files.”


Dr. Li offers CDL, school and sports physicals. He also offers affordable echocardiogram services for pediatric and adult patients, and adult lifeline screening services to assess disease risk, such as stroke and heart disease. 


Currently Dr. Li is only accepting private pay patients; patients should plan to pay $80 to $100 per visit. Superbills are available for insurance reimbursement. Dr. Li does not accept Medicare or Medicaid.
