#Enduring the sweltering record-high heats this summer was not done in vain for Nevadans. For every day that the temperature reached certain milestones, the Nevada Mining Association (NVMA) partnered with Granite Construction to donate money as a part of their 7th annual Hope for Heat campaign to benefit Boys & Girls Clubs across Nevada—raising more than $25,500 in total.
#Through the combined efforts of the NVMA and Granite Construction, the Winnemucca Boys & Girls Club received $6,384 to go towards filling various needs.
#“The Hope for Heat campaign was very intuitive and a lock for us to get money. I mean temperatures of 90 degrees in Winnemucca in the summer. I love those odds,” said Winnemucca Boys & Girls Club Director Chad Peters in an email. “I can’t tell you how much we appreciate the Nevada Mining Association, they are always looking out for the youth in our community. The NVMA and their parnters, like Granitie Construction, are great at collaborating with us on ways they can help us annually.”
#Along with Winnemucca’s Boys & Girls Club, the Clubs in Truckee Meadows, Elko and Southern Nevada, received generous contributions of more than $6,000 each as well.
#“Children are Nevada’s most precious resource, and why supporting organizations like Boys & Girls Clubs are a priority for our mining industry,” said NVMA President Tyre Gray. “The collaborative effort with Granite Construction allowed us to make the most of Nevada’s dry hot summer and sizzling temperatures to help the more than 14,000 children the four Boys & Girls Clubs affiliates serve.”
#In total, the NVMA contributed nearly $19,000 and Granite Construction contributed more than $6,500 to this year’s campaign, helping to fund programs intended to promote leadership and healthy and successful lifestyles for youth in Nevada communities.
#“This donation will help so much with our programming gap for families that need financial assistance to attend the Club. I am just so thankful for their organization and how dedicated they are in giving back to the community’s youth,” said Peters.
#The campaign ran from Memorial Day through Labor Day and in Southern Nevada, the NVMA made a $100 donation for each day that the temperature hit 100 degrees in Las Vegas. Granite Construction also donated an additional $33 per region every time the temperature milestones were reached and committed an extra $100 per day as a part of their 100 Days of Giving campaign commemorating 100 years in business.
#“We could not think of a better way to celebrate our 100 Year Anniversary than by giving back the communities in which we live and work.” said Chris Burke, Nevada Regional Vice President of Granite Construction.
