#Humboldt County residents now have a host of emergency preparedness resources at their fingertips.
#The county’s Emergency Management Department has debuted “Stay Ready Humboldt County,” a free mobile device application that is available for download on both Apple and Android smartphones.
#The new app has been made possible through a three-year grant from the Department of Homeland Security to enhance the country’s ability to prepare for, prevent, respond to, and recover from potential emergencies and other hazards.
#Local Emergency Manager Carol Lynn said the mobile application opens a whole new world of communication between the county and residents.
#“Those who download the app will have the latest information about any emergency or hazard in Humboldt County,” she said. “The more people who sign up, the better informed we will all be, and the better able to respond appropriately to local situations.”
#The app includes various modules that allow the county to convey messages, information and news articles to users—even using geo-targeted notifications to alert residents in specific locations.
#The county will deliver in-app access to relevant resources—all aimed at promoting emergency awareness and preparedness.
#The app also features a variety of interactive modules, including the ability to create a personal PDF library with need-to-know information, and step-by-step preparation guides, checklists and templates for creating individualized family emergency plans.
#Lynn said the app will be a work in progress as new information is added, existing information is updated, and local residents share their feedback.
#“We really are excited at the prospect of staying connected as a community,” said Lynn, “and enhancing the Humboldt County spirit of supporting our citizens.”
#There is no charge to download the “Stay Ready Humboldt County” app. For more information, to troubleshoot download issues, or to share suggestions or feedback, please email stayready@humboldtcountynv.gov.
