Nevada Outdoor School receives $30K from TC Energy Foundation

WINNEMUCCA — Nevada Outdoor School has received $30,000 from the TC Energy Foundation to support their youth focused programs including school-based Nature in My World programs for K-8th graders, Nature in the Park programs for 3-7 year olds and Nature Explorers camps for 8-17 year olds in rural Nevada. These programs increase youth’s “Time Spent Outdoors” and inspire, empower and motivate the next generation to explore, learn about and love the natural world. 

“Nevada Outdoor School is extremely grateful for the continued support of the TC Energy Foundation,” said Executive Director, Melanie Erquiaga. “Nevada Outdoor School’s nature-based youth programs inspire future leaders to identify as scientists and take a greater interest in STEM related fields – developing and strengthening Nevada’s (and TC Energy’s) future workforce. These programs also motivate youth to think critically about the natural world and their impacts on it, helping to keep our outdoor spaces and recreation areas healthy and open for current and future generations to enjoy. Throughout our programs, we utilize an Action. Impact. Choice. (A.I.C.) Model where participants are challenged to analyze their actions, evaluate the impacts (positive and negative) those actions have on the natural world and choose wisely to positively impact their environment and lessen negative impacts whenever possible. Our goal is for youth to be active and engaged environmental stewards who feel a connection to, understanding of and respect for the natural world.”

Funding from the TC Energy Foundation supports Nevada Outdoor School programming personnel and AmeriCorps Outdoor Educators time and training as well as transportation and program supply costs. 

“The TC Energy Foundation is committed to supporting youth in developing an interest in STEM fields and honing their skills in these areas,” said Trevence Mitchell, Assistant Director, TC Energy Foundation. “Nevada Outdoor School’s programs will help Nevada youth develop a passion for being good environmental stewards as well as prepare them to contribute to creating future energy solutions.”
