The McDermitt High School girls basketball team celebrated Winterfest with a pair of wins to end the regular season this past weekend.
The Lady Bulldogs beat Jackpot on Friday and squeezed out a 38-37 win over Wells on Saturday afternoon.
Against Wells, the Leopards led 16-13 after eight minutes of play but found it tough going on offense from there.
The Lady Bulldogs held them to eight points or fewer in each of the last there quarters.
McDermitt regained the advantage at halftime at 25-23 with a 12-7 run. The games was tied at 29 after three quarters of play, as both teams combined for 10 points in the third quarter.
The Lady Bulldogs held off the Leopards in the fourth quarter to avoid the upset and finish the 1A East at 8-2 and 195 overall.
McDermitt opens the 1A East Regional Championship on Friday against Owyhee at 6:20 p.m. at Elko High School.
Eureka, the league champion, will play the winner of Wells and Carlin on Friday at 3 p.m. in Elko. Carlin travels to Wells on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. tip.
The championship game is set for 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at Elko High School.
The two finalists advance to the NIAA 1A State Championships at Wooster High School, North Valleys High and Lawlor Events Center in Reno from Feb. 23-25.
