Lady Longhorns split with Lakers, Highlanders

The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team split its final two games of the season this past weekend on its home floor during Winterfest week.


The Lady Longhorns hosted North Tahoe on Friday and the Lakers remained undefeated in the Northern 2A with a 44-28 win. The Lakers are 11-0 in league play.


Battle Mountain closed out the weekend on a high note with a 47-20 win over Incline, the reigning 2A state champion. 


The Lady Longhorns improved to 11-9 overall and are fifth in the Northern 2A at 6-5.


North Tahoe leads the Northern 2A at 11-0, with West Wendover and Pershing County tied for second at 9-3. 


Yerington is fourth at 7-2 and Coral Academy holds the final playoff spot at 3-9.


The top six teams advance to the Northern 2A Regional Championships in Incline rom Feb. 16-18. The top two teams receive first-round byes.


Battle Mountain concludes the regular season this week with three road games. The Lady Longhorns travel to Lovelock on Thursday to play Pershing County at 6 p.m. 


The road trip continues on Friday in Reno against Coral Academy at 6 p.m. Battle Mountain closes out the weekend on Saturday in Tahoe City, Calif., against North Tahoe at 2 p.m.
