The Pershing County High School girls basketball team played its last road game of the year this past week.
After this week’s home games they’re headed for postseason.
The Lady Mustangs overwhelmed Silver Stage on Tuesday night (Jan. 31). Pershing County beat its visitors 54-10.
The Lady Mustangs came out fast and dominated the court with the first quarter ending at 20-0.
“Everyone scored and that’s always a good thing,” said coach Lee Houston.
Anna Happy sank another half court shot at half time. It’s getting to be a tradition.
Mady Grenz, a junior, had her first double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Raegan Burrows added 11 points. Kaydance Happy scored eight.
It was Pershing County’s second win against the Nighthawks this year. They beat them 50-9 in Silver Springs last month.
The Lady Mustangs faced a more challenging game in Yerington on Friday. The Mustangs pulled off the 44-32 win by capitalizing on the talents of each player.
Yasmine McKinney hit two 3-pointers in the first half. Burrows created turnovers and led the scoring for Pershing County with 20 points.
Taylor Garland added eight points. She controlled the game by running point for Lovelock.
Meanwhile, Kaydance Happy and Aaliyah Allen handled the paint. Kaydance Happy added six points.
It was also Pershing County’s second win against Yerington. They beat them in Lovelock 40-24 on Jan. 13.
Pershing County now stands at 16-5 overall and 9-3 in the Northern 2A. They’re tied for second place with West Wendover, also 9-3. Both teams trail North Tahoe (11-0).
Pershing County hosts Battle Mountain on Thursday and West Wendover on Friday. Both games start at 6 p.m.
The Lady Mustangs beat Battle Mountain at their first matchup 45-26. Pershing County lost to West Wendover 43-37 last month.
The next couple of games are pivotal. Lovelock hopes to beat Battle Mountain and West Wendover. If they do, they’ll be the second seed and get a first round bye at zone.
The team will celebrate senior night at the West Wendover game, honoring Kaydance Happy, Kaylen Halverson, Benni Pimpognoli (manager) and Nova Karlsson (manager).
