Eureka knocks off McDermitt Boys

The McDermitt High School boys basketball team took on league-leading Eureka at home on Friday night and the Vandals left the Nevada/Oregon border with a 56-18 win to stay undefeated in the Eastern 1A.


The Bulldogs dropped to 0-8 in league play and 1-19 overall.


Eureka netted the first nine points of the game, when McDermitt’s Eli Northrup knocked down a 3-pointer for the Bulldogs’ only points of the opening eight minutes of play. That was the only basket by Northrup, as the Vandals scored the final 22 points of the first quarter to lead 31-3.


McDermitt freshman Warrick Crutcher opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer and he finished with a team-high eight points, as Eureka went on a another run to end the first half, scoring the final 10 points of the second quarter to go in front 41-9 at halftime.


Crutcher added five more points in the third quarter for the Bulldogs and Jeremiah Horn had a basket in the fourth quarter for McDermitt.


McDermitt hosts Jackpot on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Wells on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.


The Bulldogs will open the Eastern 1A Regional Tournament on Feb. 14 at Jackpot, Wells or Carlin.
