Lady Longhorns split with road games with Nighthawks, Lions

It was a mixed bag of results for the Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team with its road trip to Lyon County this past weekend.


The Lady Longhorns were in Silver Springs on Friday night and beat Silver Stage 42-11. 


However on Saturday, Battle Mountain struggled on the offensive side of the ball in a 34-18 loss to Yerington.


With the split, The Lady Longhorns are fifth in the Northern 2A at 5-=4 and 10-8 overall.


North Tahoe leads the league at 9-0, followed by West Wendover (6-2), Pershing County (7-3) and Yerington (6-4). Incline is sixth at 2-7. 


The top six teams advance to the Northern 2A Regional Championships in Incline from Feb. 16-18.


In the win over Silver Stage, senior Aylea Ramos led the way with nine points, while Thalia Gonzalez added seven and Shea Jones and Lindsey Bleak netted six points apiece.


Christina Holley scored five points, Jolena Ayers four, Lilliana Haney three and Heidy Amezcua two. 


In the loss to Yerington, Ramos scored seven points, Haney five, Bleak three, Ayers two and Holley one.


Battle Mountain closes out its home schedule this weekend, beginning Friday at 6 p.m. against North Tahoe. Incline visits Battle Mountain on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tip.


The Lady Longhorns close out the regular season with three road games, Pershing County (Feb. 9). Coral Academy (Feb. 10) and North Tahoe (Feb. 11).


The North Tahoe contest is a make-up game that got postponed earlier in the year.
