BMHS boys sweep road league games

The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team moved itself into third place in the Northern 2A at 6-3 with a pair of road wins this past weekend in Lyon County.


The Longhorns beat Silver Stage 46-21 on Friday night and Yerington 53-46 on Saturday to improve to 10-7 overall. Battle Mountain trailed by two points to the Lions after eight minutes of play but used a 21-13 run in the second quarter to build a lead it would not give up.


West Wendover leads the league at 10-0 and Incline is second at 8-1.


Battle Mountain 96-3) is third, followed by North Tahoe (5-3), Pershing County (4-6) and Yerington (2-7).


The top six teams advance to the Northern 2A Regional Championship in Incline from Feb. 16-18.


Battle Mountain closes out its home schedule this weekend, hosting North Tahoe on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Incline on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.


The Longhorns close out the regular season with three road games, Pershing County (Feb. 9). Coral Academy (Feb. 10) and North Tahoe (Feb. 11).


The North Tahoe contest is a make-up game that got postponed earlier in the year.
