Coach Mike Brooks ended up adding a sixth mat to the wrestling tournament at PCHS on Saturday.

About 365 wrestlers made it to the meet, almost 100 more than the previous year (275).

Wrestlers came from 22 schools across northern Nevada and Los Gatos, Calif.

It was the largest Lovelock Invitational in PCHS history.

“We added the mat to speed up the event and it was necessary to add it. We haven’t before,” he said. “It was a packed crowd which makes it exciting for the kids.”

Cade Liebsack (150 JV), Samael Diarte (144 JV), Angelo Gibson (144) and Xavier Weatherman (120) placed third.

“We were proud of how our kids performed. It was our best tournament yet. We’re thankful for all the support we get. We would be nowhere without help to run these events and have these programs at the school,” Brooks said.

The Pershing County wrestlers compete in the Cougar Bash at Spanish Springs High School on Friday, Dec. 22.
