Last Tuesday the PCHS boys basketball teams observed a Christmas tradition, with the fans remaining silent until the players scored their 10th point.
They didn’t have to wait long. The return of Izayuh McGlothin and Luis Sanchez helped the varsity boys reach the goal midway through the first quarter.
McGlothin, Sanchez and Travis Donaldson had been temporarily sidelined by football injuries. Donaldson is expected back early next month.
The Mustangs retained the lead throughout the game, beating visiting Sierra Lutheran 57-47.
Senior Marshall Happy goes for a rebound.
The confidence booster gave each Mustang player a chance to showcase their talents.
On Friday, the Mustangs traveled to Incline Village and lost 61-34 to the Highlanders.
The highly-ranked team has seven seniors to Lovelock’s three (Conner Fecht, Aaron Kienbaum and Marshall Happy).
The Mustangs battled until the final buzzer but were flummoxed by Incline’s offensive onslaught.
Izayuh McGlothin helps lead the attack against the visiting Sierra Lutheran Falcons.
Pershing County stands at 2-7 overall, and 1-1 in the 2A Northern league.
The Mustangs travel to Battle Mountain on Thursday and West Wendover on Friday.
They’ll start 2024 on the road against Yerington (Jan. 3) and be back on their home court against North Tahoe Jan. 5.
“We are willing to play hard and keep composure even when the going gets tough,” said coach Jesse Canchola.
