With a new coach in Marcella Northrup on the sideline for this season, the McDermitt High School girls basketball team has begun the year with a quick start.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the season at the WREC Classic in Wells and West Wendover and picked up three wins in four games.
McDermitt opened with a 36-21 win over Round Mountain after building a 28-13 lead at halftime.
Vina Tom and Reign Crutcher each scored eight points and Sadie Hinkey added six.
Kiarra Crutcher netted five points, Cierra Smart three and Riata Palmer, Alexis Scott and Laeloni Tobey two each.
On the second day of the tournament, McDermitt traveled to West Wendover for two games. McDermitt took on Wendover, Utah, in the first game and suffered a 29-24 loss to the Wildcats.
Wendover led by a point entering the fourth quarter and outscored McDermitt 9-5 in the final eight minutes to secure the win.
Reign Crutcher reached double figures with 10 points and Palmer and Scott had two points apiece.
The Lady Bulldogs were back on the floor to play West Wendover (Nevada) and they beat the Wolverines 50-25.
McDermitt used runs of 16-6 in the first quarter and 16-4 in the fourth to double up West Wendover.
Reign Crutcher scored a team-high 16 points, with Scott adding eight and Kiara Crutcher six. Cierra Smart, Tobey and Nicolette Northrup each scored five points.
Hinley contributed three points and Tom two.
In the final game of the tournament. McDermitt cruised to a 52-4 win over Green Valley Christian from Las Vegas.
Smart led the way with 11 points, with Kiarra Crutcher adding 10. Scott dropped in eight points and Reign Crutcher and Tobey six each. Hinkey scored five, Northrup four and Tom two.
McDermitt traveled to Pyramid Lake on Wednesday and results were not available at press time.
The Lady Bulldogs will be in Reno Dec. 27-29 for the Christmas Classic.
