The Battle Mountain High School wrestling team was back in Idaho this past weekend at the Wiley Dobbs Invitational in Twin Falls.
The tournament features some of the best teams in Idaho.
The Longhorns tied for 19th as a team with 35 points out of 34 schools that competed. Buhl won the tournament with 243.5 points, followed by Jerome at 163.
Elko, the two-time reigning 3A state champion, placed third with 139 points.
Cruz Jinemez at 120 pounds placed fourth for thew Longhorns. After a first-round bye, he reached the semifinals with pins of Schyler Robertson of Kuna and Gooding’s Blake Koyle.
Jinemez dropped a 9-4 decision in the semifinals to Gabe Muilenburg of Glenns Ferry but came back in the consolation round to pin Highland’s Jacob Vincent.
He was knocked off in the third-place match by a 18-6 decision against Burley’s Tristan Vega.
Wyatt Madalena turned in a sixth-place finish at 160 pounds.
Madalena received byes into the quarterfinal round, where he pinned Pocatello’s Vincent Juarez in the first period.
However, Madalena dropped his final three matches to finish sixth.
Liam Bundrock knocked off Kuna’s Eli Martin in the consolation round three at 132 pounds, but was knocked out of the tournament in the next round.
Ben George also wrestled for Battle Mountain at 285 pounds.
In the JV tournament, Anthony Lopez-Hernandez and Leo Mathias picked up wins for Battle Mountain.

girls tournament
The Longhorn’s Dani Madalena wrestled at 114 pounds in the girls tournament at Wiley Dobbs.
After a loss in the championship second round, she came back to pin Buhl’s Dakota McClymonds and Kimberly’s Aubrey Ommundson. Madalena lost a close 8-6 decision In the consolation fourth round.
Battle Mountain traveled to Ely on Tuesday for the White Pine Invitational and results were not available at press time. The Longhorn are back in action Jan 5-6 in Idaho.
