The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team wrapped up its non-conference, preseason schedule this past weekend with a trip to Smith Valley for the Bulldogs Invitational.
Battle Mountain jumped out to a 12-2 lead in its opening game against Virginia City and cruised to a 38-17 victory.
On Saturday, Battle Mountain took on host Smith Valley and raced out to a 21-8 advantage at halftime.
However, the Bulldogs closed the gap to 29-25 with two minutes to play and eventually held on for a 33-28 win.
In the final game of the tournament, Eureka beat Battle Mountain 58-26. The Vandals played in the 1A state championship last year, falling to Pyramid Lake.
Battle Mountain opens up Northern 2A play on Friday against Oasis Academy at 6 p.m.
The road trip concluded on Saturday at Yerington at 2 p.m.
The Lady Longhorns host Pershing County on Thursday, Dec. 21. At 6 p.m. and Coral Academy on Friday, Dec. 22, at 6 p.m.
