The Battle Mountain High School wrestling team made the short trip to Winnemucca this past weekend for the Cody Louk Invitational and had a pair of wrestlers place second.
Battle Mountain’s Andy Wall holds Wooster’s Riley Smith on the mat in a 150-pound match.
Liam Bundrock at 132 pounds and Wyatt Madalena at 157 collected runner-up finishes.
After a first-round bye, Bundrock advanced to the semifinals with pins over Spanish Springs; Makiah Villa and Reed’s Haden Carmelo in the first period.
Bundrock made his way into the title match with a 9-2 win over Douglas’ Kai Blumenthal but lost in the championship to Brady Olson of Damonte Ranch.
Madalena got through the first two rounds of the tournament with pins over Reed’s Kalay Donald and Lowry Gold’s Randy Peterson.
Battle Mountain’s Liam Bundrock finishes a pin of Spanish Springs’ Makiah Villa in a 132-pound match at the Cody Louk Invitational. Bundrock finished second in the weight class.
Madlena had to go the full six minutes in the quarterfinals but still cruised to a 13-3 win over Reno’s Graham Lemons.
Madalena pinned Eureka’s Quinn Filippini in the semifinals but lost to Douglas’ Dalton Nixon in the finals.
Dani Madalena finished sixth for the Longhorns at 113 pounds. Cruz Jimenez at 120 pounds, Aden Jenkins (126), Andy Wall (150), Leo Mathias (215) and Ben George at 285 pounds also picked up wins for Battle Mountain.

Those that were knocked out of the tournament on Friday were put into a pod tournament on Saturday, where a handful of Longhorn wrestlers competed.
Battle Mountain was 11th in the team standings with 84.5 points. Lowry Blue won with 228 points.
Battle Mountain was scheduled to travel to Spring Creek on Wednesday for pod tournament and results were not available at press time. The Longhorns head back to Twin Falls, Idaho, this weekend for the Wile Dobbs Invitational.
In the final meet of 2023, Battle Mountain travels to Ely on Tuesday for the White Pine Invitational.
