BMHS boys split four games


The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team split four games in Smith Valley at the Bulldogs Invitational, beating Pahranagat Valley 67-29 and Smith Valley 72-58 and losing 72-57 to Virginia City and 64-36 to Eureka. 

The Longhorns are now 5-4 on the season.


Virginia City 72, 

Battle Mountain 57

In the first game on Friday, senior Blake Stuart and freshman Geovanni Ruvalcaba led the way with 20 and 19, points, respectively. 

Ruvalcaba added four assists and four rebounds and Stuart had four rebounds and an assist.

Brodie Smith added five points, Luis Guizar three and Adan Nevarez, Ayne Hall and Lewis Strong each had two points.


Battle Mountain 67, Pahranagat Valley 29

Battle Mountain bounced back in a big way in its second game on Friday with a 38-point win over Pahranagat Valley of the Southern 1A.

Ruvalcaba (17), Smith (14) and Stuart (11) combined for 48 of the Longhorns’ points. Ruvalcaba contributed three steals, three rebounds and two assists and Stuart grabbed six rebounds to go with five assists and two steals.

Nevarez netted eight points, with seven rebounds and an assist and Chase Lutz and Daniel Andrade added six and five points, respectively. 

Eric Fernandez had four points and Jake Perrone two.


Battle Mountain 72, Smith Valley 58

Ruvalcaba, a freshman, scored a career-high 33 points in the win and added three rebounds, three assists and three steals in the win over host Smith Valley.

Lutz contributed 11 points and two rebounds and Smith finished with nine points, four steals, three rebounds and two assists. Stuart ended with seven points, four rebounds, a block and an assist.


Eureka 64, 

Battle Mountain 36

Battle Mountain drooped its final game of the tournament to Eureka of the 1A East and now get ready for league play.

The Longhorns travel to Fallon on Friday to play Oasis Academy at 4:30 p.m. 

The road trip concludes on Saturday in Yerington at 3:30 p.m.
