Lowry wrestlers go 4-1 at Fallon Duals


The Lowry High School wrestling team made the short trip to Fallon on Saturday t starts its season with the Fallon Duals.

The Buckaroos varsity squad went 4-1 and the JV group going 0-4. Luke Fentress, a senior at 190 pounds and Jhet Harber, a junior at 175 pounds, each went a perfect 5-0 on the day.

“It’s early in the season and we have a long way to go,” said LHS coach John Brooks. “Early in the season we are simply trying to gain experience. After competing for the first time this season, we see some obvious things that we need to improve on.  We just need to get back to work.”

Lowry beat McQueen 54-26, Wooster 72-12, Yerington 54-30 and McQueen 78-6. 

The Buckaroos lost 59-18 to 5A perennial power Spanish Springs.


Lowry 56, 

Fernley 24

Lowry sophomore Jayden Howard gave the Buckaroos and early lead with a pin in the first match. He went 4-1 on the day. 

The Vaqueros won the next two matches to go in front 10-6 but it was all Lowry after that.

Chris Gildone (150) and Billy DeLong (157) each pinned their opponents and Alessondro Huerta (165), Harber (175), Fentress (190), Jake Bauman (215) and Logan Jonas at 285 pounds each won by pin to increase the lead to 42-16. 

Kruz Gomez at 113 pounds and Marcas Ricci (126) won by pin.


Lowry 72, 

Wooster 12

Bradyn Snyder, DeLong, Pete Bengochea and Gomez won by forfeit for the Buckaroos. The Colts won only one match on the mat and another by forfeit.

Ricci, Howard, Urijah Davis, Gildone, Huerta, Harber, Fentress, Bauman and Jonas all won by pin for Lowry.


Lowry 54, 

Yerington 30

Lowry found itself in a 12-0 hole after the first two matches against Yerington, when Howard gave the Buckaroos their first points with a pin over Eric Pineda at 126 pounds in the first period. 

The Buckaroos lost the next bout to fall behind 18-6 but won the next six matches and never trailed again.

Davis began the run with a forfeit at 144 pounds and Gildone and DeLong followed with pins. DeLong needed just 18 seconds to beat Dante Sceirine.

Huerta won by forfeit at 165 pounds and Harber and Fentress closed out the run with first-period pins. 

The gap closed to 42-30, but Bengoa pinned Jisinia Cervantes in 54 seconds and in the final match, Gomez stopped Chase Garcia in 68 seconds.


Lowry 78, 

McQueen 6

McQueen scored is only points by forfeit at 120 pounds. Gomez, Ricci, Howard, Snyder, Davis, Gildone, DeLong, Huerta, Harber and Fentress won by first period pins. Bauman pined Julian Luevanos in the third period and Bengochea won by pin in the second period over Colin Moran. Jonas won his bout by forfeit.


Spanish Spring 59, Lowry 18

Spanish Springs won the first three matches of the dual in a battle of the top teams in northern Nevada,

Ricci, Harber and Fentress picked up wins for the Buckaroos.

Lowry hosts South Tahoe on Thursday at the Winnemucca Event Center at 6 p.m. 

The Buckaroos host the Cody Louk Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Event Center.


Lowry JV

The Lowery junior varsity squad wrestled in four duals against varsity squads.

Lowry lost 72-12 to Carson, 71-6 to Douglas, 35-24 to Galena and 57-21 to Wooster.

Kazsin Gonzalez won his match by pin in 63 seconds against and TJ Mattson won by forfeit.

Landon Esquivel collected Lowry’s lone win against Douglas, pinning Kai Blumenthal in the second period. 

Mattson and Gonzalez won by pin against Galena and Edward Jones won by forfeit at 106 pounds.

Randy Peterson and Jones won by forfeit against Wooster and Esquivel and Brayden earned wins on the mat.
