#The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team began its season on a high note with five wins at the Serpent Classic this past weekend in Hawthorne.
#The Lady Longhorns opened the year with a 39-26 win over Smith Valley and a 61-21 victory over host Mineral County.
#On Friday, Battle Mountain rolled past Rite of Passage 51-9 and then overcame a four-point deficit to Coleville, Calif, to outscore the Wolves 24-16 in the second half to win 42-38.
#In the final game of the tournament on Saturday, Battle Mountain collected its second win over Mineral County, beating the Serpents 41-23.
#The Lady Longhorns travel to Smith Valley this weekend for a two-day tournament.
#Battle Mountain is scheduled to play Virginia City and Pahranagat Valley on Friday and Smith Valley and Eureka on Saturday.
#Battle Mountain begins league play on Friday, Dec. 15, at Oasis Academy in Fallon.
#The Lady Longhorns travel to Yerington on Saturday, Dec. 16. Battle Mountain hosts Pershing County on Thursday, Dec. 21, at 6 p.m.
