The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team began its season on a high note with five wins at the Serpent Classic this past weekend in Hawthorne.
The Lady Longhorns opened the year with a 39-26 win over Smith Valley and a 61-21 victory over host Mineral County.
On Friday, Battle Mountain rolled past Rite of Passage 51-9 and then overcame a four-point deficit to Coleville, Calif, to outscore the Wolves 24-16 in the second half to win 42-38.
In the final game of the tournament on Saturday, Battle Mountain collected its second win over Mineral County, beating the Serpents 41-23.
The Lady Longhorns travel to Smith Valley this weekend for a two-day tournament.
Battle Mountain is scheduled to play Virginia City and Pahranagat Valley on Friday and Smith Valley and Eureka on Saturday.
Battle Mountain begins league play on Friday, Dec. 15, at Oasis Academy in Fallon.
The Lady Longhorns travel to Yerington on Saturday, Dec. 16. Battle Mountain hosts Pershing County on Thursday, Dec. 21, at 6 p.m.
