Lowry boys soccer finishes 0-2-1 at Spring Creek tournament


Under the direction of first-year head coach Cristina Cuevas, the Lowry High School boys soccer team began its 2023 season this past weekend at the Spring Creek tournament.

The Buckaroos went 0-2-1 over the two days losing to Silverado and Eldorado from Las Vegas and earning a tie with Spring Creek.


Silverado 2, Lowry 0

In the season-opener for the Buckaroos, the match was scoreless at halftime but the Skyhawks scored a pair of second-half goals to earn the victory.


Eldorado 6, Lowry 0

In the second game on Friday, Lowry took on Eldorado and lost 6-0. The Sundevils played in the 5A state championship last year, losing to Bishop Gorman 2-1.

Eldorado scored three goals in each half to secure the win.

Spring Creek 0

Lowry finished the tournament on Saturday with a scoreless tie against host Spring Creek in a non-conference match-up.

Lowry starts Northern 3A East play this weekend with a road trip to Ely on Friday to play White Pine at 4:45 p.m. 

The road trip concludes on Saturday in West Wendover at 11:45 a.m. (MDT).

The four-match trip road  to start Northern 3A play continues On Sept. 8 with a return trip to Spring Creek and in Elko on Saturday, Sept. 9. 

The Buckaroos’ home debut is set for Friday, Sept. 15, against Dayton at 4:45 p.m.

The Northern 3A realigned into two divisions this year, as the 2A joined the 3A. Lowry is in the East division with White Pine, West Wendover, Elko, Spring Creek, Dayton, Fernley and Churchill County.   

Lowry is not scheduled to play teams from the Northern 3A West until the postseason at the end of the year.
