After a rough first day at its home tournament, the Battle Mountain High School finished second, making its way through the bracket to finish in the runner-up spot.
In pool play on Friday, Battle Mountain beat Wells and the Spring Creek JV and lost to Smith Valley and West Wendover.
In bracket play on Saturday, Battle Mountain knocked off Wells in two sets, followed by wins over Pershing County and West Wendover. Battle Mountain lost 25-15, 27-25 to Smith Valley in the championship.

In the opening match on Friday, Battle Mountain swept Wells 25-16 and 25-22. The Leopards are members of the Eastern 1A.
Stevlana had two of the Lady Longhorns’ four kills, with Galileah Benavides and Olivia Lemaire each had one.
Battle Mountain had 10 aces in the two sets, led by Kyandra Perez with four and Martinez had two. Heidy Amezcua had six digs and Kelcee Robey and Martinez each had two digs.

Spring Creek JV 25-13, 25-19
Battle Mountain picked up its second straight win with a two-set triumph over Spring Creek. Lemaire (5) and Martinez (4) combined for nine of the Lady Longhorns 12 kills. Benavides contributed two kills.
Alissa Heinz had a team-high three aces, with Amezcua adding two aces and seven assists. Benavides, Robey, Heinz and Amezcua each had three digs.
Smith Valley def. BMHS 25-21, 25-13
Battle Mountain suffered its first loss of the day to one of the top teams in the 1A. Smith Valley took down Battle Mountain in two sets.
Lemaire had a team-high two kills and six blocks. The Lady Longhorns had 23 digs, led by Amezcua with seven, Perez five, Robey four and Heinz three.
West Wendover
def. BMHS 24-25, 25-17, 15-1
Battle Mountain lost its final match on Friday to league foe West Wendover. The Lady Longhorns won the first 25-24, but the Wolverines bounced back including a 15-1 run in the third set.
Lemaire and Martinez finished with six and four kills, respectively for Battle Mountain. Martinez added five blocks and Lemaire finished with three blocks. Heinz and Amezcua each finished with seven assists and Heinz and Amezcua added six and five digs, respectively.

In the first round of bracket play on Saturday, Battle Mountain came away with a 25-16 and 25-20 win over Wells.
Benavides, Martinez and Lemaire each had two kills. With Benavides adding six blocks and Martinez and Lemaire had five and four blocks, respectively. Robey had a team high five aces and Lindsey Bleak and Asier Iturriaga added three and two aces.
Iturriaga and Bleak each had four digs and Heinz finished with four assists.

Battle Mountain took on rival Pershing County and won in three sets to eliminate the Mustangs from the tournament.
Martinez (5) and Lemaire (4) had nine of the 12 Battle Mountain kills, while Lemaire had 13 blocks and Benavides added five blocks.
Bleak had a team-high 10 digs, with Robee adding five. Heinz and Amezcua each had three assists.

West Wendover 25-16, 25-22
In the semifinals, Battle Mountain avenged its Friday loss to West Wendover with a two-set win.
Martinez had three of the Lady Longhorns’ six kills and a team-high seven blocks. Heinz had five assists.
Smith Valley def.
Battle Mountain 25-15, 27-25
In the championship match, Smith Valley hung on in the second set to win 27-25 and claim the title.
Lemaire and Martinez finished with four and three kills, respectively and Martinez added a team-high three blocks. Bleak contributed five digs and Amezcua had six assists.
Battle Mountain opened Northern 2A play on Wednesday in West Wendover and results were not available at press time.
The Lady Longhorns host Incline on Friday at 5 p.m. and North Tahoe on Saturday at noon.
