WINNEMUCCA.—Budding writers and poets are invited to put pen to paper this Labor Day weekend.
The “Write-a-Story Contest” asks area youth to write a 300-word story or poem using the theme “My Favorite Holiday.”
Prizes will be awarded in five age groups, including 3 to 5, 6 to 9, 10 to 13, 14 to 16 and 17 to 18. Parents of 3- to 5-year-olds may help children create their story.
Completed, legible manuscripts must be turned in no later than 5 p.m. Monday, August 28, to the Winnemucca Convention Center or the Humboldt County Extension Office.
Writers should include their name, address, age, phone number and school on the backs of their entry.
Fair organizers are excited about the possibilities for the contest. “This is not only a fun contest, but it’s challenging as well,” said Tri-County Fair Board Chairman Darrel Field. “It will challenge youngsters’ creativity, and it will make for some good reading for judges as well.”
