Lowry volleyball travels to Yerington for preseason tournament

With seven new players on a new-look roster, the Lowry High School volleyball team began its season this past weekend in Yerington with a two-day preseason tournament.

The Lady Bucks opened with pool play on Friday and won two of their three matches. 

Lowry opened with a 25-21, 25-19 victory over Round Mountain and then overcame a one-set deficit against Bishop Union, Calif. 

Bishop claimed the opening set 25-19, only to see Lowry come back with a 25-16 and 17-15 win to claim the victory in three sets.

Lowry closed out the day against host Yerington and knocked off the Lions in set one, 25-21. The Lions roared back with a 25-7 win in set and won the match in the third set 15-8.

On Saturday, Lowry opened with league rival Elko and the Indians knocked off the Lady Bucks 26-24 and 25-20 in to close sets. 

Lowry ran into a buzzsaw one match later, as North Tahoe beat Lowry 25-10 and 25-7. 

The day ended with Lowry falling 25-23 and 25-13 to McQueen.   

Lowry is off this weekend and begins Northern 3A East play on Thursday, Aug. 31, at home against Churchill County at 6 p.m.
