The Lowry High School baseball team was back on its home field this past week for the first time since March 10 to take on Spring Creek in a Northern 3A East tripleheader.

The league-leading Spartans kept the No. 1 seed in the Northern 3A East with a three-game sweep of the Buckaroos. 

The Spartans came from behind to win 16-10 on Thursday and swept a doubleheader 16-0 and 15-0 on Friday. 

Lowry dropped to 1-8 in the Northern 3A East and 4-14-1 overall.

Lowry jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the second inning in the opening game of the series on Thursday.

Adam Brooks started the rally with a leadoff double, followed by a one-oy walk to Erick Bergenheier and Jordan Bills, Angus Boyles and Anthony Guzman followed with singles. 

After the second out was recorded, Kayd Garner kept the rally going with a walk and Brayden Dennis, Brooks and Bergenheier followed with singles to make the score 8-0.

The Spartans cut the Buckaroo deficit to 8-2 in the third inning, when Lowry got the two runs back in the bottom of the fourth to go in front 10-2. Garner and Dennis singled to begin the frame and Brook walked. 

Graner scored on a wild pitch and Dennis plated the 10th run on a ground out by Kasyn Garner.

Spring Creek began its comeback with six runs in the fifth inning to trail 10-8 and the Spartans took the lead for good at 12-10 after scoring four runs in the sixth inning. 

Spring Creek finished the rally with four more runs in the seventh inning.

Txema Bengochea, Kayd Garner, Dennis, Brooks and Bills each had two hits. Bergenheier, Boyles and Guzman had one hit apiece.

Aidan Tregellas started for Lowry and received a no decision. He allowed eight runs (four earned) on six hits. 

He walked five and struck out one. Zaq Growcock, Boyles, ReiCyan Grau and Brandon Cardenas all saw time on the mound as well.

In the first game on Friday, Spring Creek plated six runs in the first inning and never looked back. 


The Spartans added two runs in the second inning and eight more in the third to win by the run rule in three innings.


Dennis and Guzman combined for Lowry’s two hits. Brooks started for Lowry and suffered the loss.


Spring Creek 15, Lowry 0


In the series finale, Spring Creek scored 10 runs in the first inning of its way to the mercy-rule win in three innings.


The lone runner in the contest for Lowry was a walk by Brooks in the second inning.


Lowry was scheduled to play South Tahoe on Tuesday and results were not available at press time.


The Buckaroos wrap up their home schedule this weekend against Churchill County. The series starts at 3 p.m. on Friday, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 a.m.


Churchill County is tied for second in the Northern 3A East with Elko at 6-3, with Spring Creek leading at 8-1. Fernley and Dayton are both 3-6.


 South Tahoe and Truckee share the top spot in the Northern 3A West at 9-0. Sparks is third at 5-4 and Truckee is fourth with a 3-6 record.


The top six teams advance to the Northern 3A Regional Championships at Wooster High School in Reno from May 11-13.
