The Pershing County High School baseball team bounced back against Incline last Wednesday.
They beat the Highlanders on the road in the last of a three-game series. The Mustangs went 3-0 against Incline for the season (12-7, 12-8, 11-8).
"We played a solid and well-rounded game. It was a good bounce-back win and sets us up well as the season comes to a close," coach Jared Jensen said.
With the win, Pershing County improved to 11-10, overall, and 8-6 in the Northern 2A.
The Mustangs are fourth in the league behind West Wendover (14-1), Yerington (10-2) and Battle Mountain (9-3).
This time last year the Mustangs were seventh in the league.
The Mustangs jumped out to an early lead against Incline by scoring on a double from Taylor Montes in the first inning. Ayden Montes doubled in the second inning and Pershing took the lead for good.
Wyatt Diaz pitched six innings for the Mustangs, allowing three hits and three runs, striking out three and walking zero. Trenton Rhodes started the game.
He allowed three hits and five runs over one inning, striking out two.
"Wyatt only pitched 54 pitches in six innings, which means we were playing good defense behind him," Jensen said. Diaz got the batters out quickly, allowing the defense to spend less time on the field and be more effective.
On Tuesday, April 25, Pershing County traveled to Battle Mountain for the first of a three-game series against the Longhorns. Results were not available at press time.
PCHS hosts the last two games of the series on Saturday, at 10 a.m. and noon.
