Ayers wins 400 meters at Lowry Invitational

The Battle Mountain High School track and field team made the quick trip to Winnemucca on Saturday for the Lowry Invitational.

Senior Jolena Ayers took home the top spot in the 400-meters with a season-best time of 1 minute, 4.74 seconds. 

She collected runner-up finishes in the 100 meters (13.71) and the 200 meters (28.60).

Lindsey Bleak (27-4) and Bailey Elderkin (27-3) were fifth and sixth in the triple jump and freshman Addison Payzant placed ninth in the long jump with a mark of 111-2.50, a personal best.  

Bleak placed ninth in the 200 meters (30.21), a personal best and she was 12th in the 100 meters (14.77).

Alexis Record set personal bests in the shot put and discus. She threw the shot 28-0 to place fifth and the discus (73-11.50 to finish ninth. 

Danielle Madalena (7:08.37) and Alivia Liebhardt (8:13.72) were seventh and eighth in the 1,600 meters and Liebhardt added a 10th-place outing in the 800 meters at 3:45.97.

Taylor Clark finished sixth in the 200 meters with a personal best time of 29.85 and was seventh in the 100 meters in another personal best, stopping the clock at 14.44.

Ivy Peterson was ninth in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 20.88 and Lilly Peterson was 10th at 21.20.

The 4x100 relay of Bleak, Kylee Freeman, Sonja Sherve and Clark were second at 57.42 and the 4x400 relay of Andrea Alcaraz-Lopez, Paisley Mudd, Tessa Ostler and Payzant were second as well in a time of 5:21.00.

The 4x800 relay of Ostler, Lilly Peterson, Liebhardt and Madalena recorded a runner-up finish in a time of 14:20.87 and the 4x200 relay of Taylor Clark, Elderkin, Ostler and Ayers were third with a time of 2:05.23.

On the boys side, Sean Bengoa ran a season-best 11.90 to finish fourth in the 100 meters and he was fourth in the 200-meters (24.02), a personal best.

Kodee Ray placed seventh in the 100 meters (12.22) and was 10th in the 200 meters (25.21) and Armando Eusebio was eighth in the 200 meters at 24.53, a personal best for him.

Wyatt Madalena ran a personal best 1:00.21 to place eighth in the 400 meters, while teammate Sean Doney was 11th at 1:01.23, a personal best for him. Doney also set a personal best in the 1,600 meters to place 10th with a time of 5:54.09.

Eli Colver (2:38.53) and Sean Scherer (2:41.57) set personal bests in the 800 meters to place 10th and 11th, respectively. 

Andy Wall finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (19.24) and sixth in the 300-meter hurdles (48.80), with Joey Smith finishing fifth in the 110-meter hurdles (19.35) and seventh in the 300-meter hurdles (49.38). 

Both of those times for Smith were personal bests.

Ben Disbro placed fourth in the shot put 39-6) and fourth in the discus (111-7.50) and teammate Ben George was eighth in the discus with a throw of 105-9.


Blake Stuart (37-5), Scherer (33-5) and Ari Kyllonen (32-6) were second, fifth and seventh in the triple jump and Eusebio was the runner up in the long jump at 18-1. Stuart added a seventh-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 17-2.50.


Scherer was 10th in the pole vault and Alex Wall places 12th in the high jump and triple jump. Scott Wall placed 12th in the long jump.


The 4x200 relay of Bengoa, Elias Goodman, Kodee Ray and Eusebio won with a time of 1:40.88.


The 4x100 relay of James Spealman, Isaac Martinez, Andy Wall and Scott Wall were third at 49.71.

The 4x800 relay of Payzant, Edgar Sanchez-Ruiz, Sean Doney and Eli Colver were third at 11:12.26.


 Battle Mountain travels to Truckee on Saturday for the Bob Shaffer Invitational.
