The Lowry High School track and field team made its way to Reno this past Saturday for the Hug 9 Invite and the Buckaroos brought home some first-place finishes.
Senior Sydnee Pettis claimed a pair of first-place finishes, including the 100-meter dash, where she ran a personal-best time of 12.77 seconds.
She set a personal best in the long jump as well to win with a leap of 16-8.25. In addition, Pettis placed fourth in the 200-meters in a season-best time of 27.38.
Kianna Head earned a runner-up finish in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4-8 and the freshman was eighth in the triple jump at 30-6.50, a personal best.
Caryn Sanchez finished fifth in the discus with a toss of 78 feet, 2 inches and the sophomore was 13th in the shot put at 23-7.50.
Isabella Bartell placed ninth in the discus with a throw of 72-2, a personal best and Morelia Magana set personal bests in the shot put (25-11.50) and the discus (66-5) to place seventh and 12th, respectively. Megan Cabada was 12th in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 23-11.
Mia Hernandez placed seventh in the high jump at 4-4 and the senior was eighth in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 8-6.
Ashley Bottoms was 12th in the pole vault at 7-0. Bottoms placed 16th in the 100-meter hurdles (20.21).
Kepa Hilbish placed ninth in the 100-meters with a personal-best time of 13.68 and the sophomore was 14th in the 200 meters (28.64) another personal best.
Maite Avalos set a personal best in the 100-meter hurdles at 18,55 to place ninth.
Brooklyn Swensen was 13th in the 800 meters with a personal best 3:01.68 and Ellanora Petersen was 14th in the 100-meter dash.
The 4x100 relay placed second at 32.17 and the 4x200 relay was sixth.
Lowry was eight in the team standings with 53.5 points. Galena won the meet with 135 points and Reno was a close second at 133.
On the boys side, Nomar Aguirre swept the throwing events. The junior set a personal best in the shot put at 48-3 to win by nearly six feet.
He threw the discus 157-2.50. Teammate and fellow junior Jesse Jeronimo was the runner-up in the shot put at 42-11 and he was third in the discus at 130-3.
Senior Tyson Terry finished seventh in the shot put (39-7.50) and eighth in the discus (116.5).
Shaun Gilliland (12-0) and Kaid Sanchez (11-6) set season bests in the pole vault to place second and third, respectively.
Shane Gilliland was sixth in the pole vault (9-6) and ninth in the high jump (5-0).
Conner Nelson (35-9), Corbin Berezay (32-9), Austin White (31-8) and Jayden Howard (30-2) all set personal bests in the triple jump to place sixth, eighth, ninth and 10th.
Carson Primeax was 10th in the pole vault (8-0) and 12th in the long jump (17-7) and Braden Hammargren placed 18th in the long jump and 18th in the 100-meter dash (12.20).
Ryder Huitt finished eighth in the 400 meters with a personal-best time of 56.21, Ryan Utterback was 13th in the 200-meters at 24.49, a personal-best for him and Deven Gomez was 16th in the 300-meter hurdles (48.28) and 17th in the 110-meter hurdles (23.50).
In the JV division Jonathan Moser was seventh in the shot out at 31-0
Lowry was fifth in the team standings with 65 points. Spanish Springs won with 121 points and Reno (114) was second.
Lowry is at home this Saturday for its annual meet at 9 a.m.
