DeLong wins cutting, saddle bronc, tie-down roping at Spanish Springs rodeo


The Nevada High School Rodeo Association was back in action with the Spanish Springs rodeo over Easter weekend.


Humboldt County’s Billy DeLong won three events over the weekend. He took home the top spot in boys cutting with 142 points, finish fourth in the first performance and second in the final performance.


DeLong had two successful rides in saddle bronc and was the only cowboys to record a score over the two days. 


He scored 73 points on day one and 70 in the second performance.


DeLong won the tie-down roping with an average of 25.350. He was second in the first performance at 12.920 and DeLong won the second performance with a time of 12.430.


DeLong was fourth in steer wrestling after recording a no time in the first performance. He came back to win the second performance in a time of 4.89.


Battle Mountain’s Flint Schacht won the bull riding average with 74 points. Fallon’s Tator Nez (73) and Elko’s Ethan Wakefield (67) were second and third, respectively.


Humboldt County’s Cooper Hill placed fourth in the tie-down roping average at 34.400 and he was eighth in the boys cutting average.


Humboldt County’s Brynn Barto was seventh in the barrel racing average and Matti DeLong was 11th. 


Battle Mountain’s Amelia Lancaster finished fourth in breakaway roping, while Matti DeLong and Barto were 18th and 19th, respectively.


Battle Mountain’s Italy Jo Holman placed third in girls cutting, which included a performance win on the final day with 74 points. 


Holman also turned in a second-place finish in pole bending. She won the second performance with a time of 20.166. Lancaster was seventh in girls cutting, while Matti DeLong, Natalie Mori and Ashley Rookstool were fifth, seventh and 11th.


Barto and Matti DeLong placed sixth and seventh in goat tying and Barto was sixth in pole bending, Matti DeLong eighth and Lancaster was ninth. Humboldt County’s Leigh Johnson was 15th in pole bending.




Junior High Results


In the junior high division, Louise DeLong was 12th in barrel racing and Macy Marvel was 14th. Bryce Fears placed third in boys breakaway roping, Lane Byrd was fifth and Logan Lancaster placed 14th.


Lane Byrd and Wyatt Thomas placed eighth and 11th in boys goat tying and Ben Marvel and Logan Marshall were second and fifth in chute dogging.


Jorja Mashburn was the runner-up in girls breakaway roping, while Louise DeLong was sixth and Taylor Hill 10th. Landry Meiman finished fifth in girls goat tying and Louise DeLong and Taylor Hill were 12th and 13th.


Ben Marvel won the saddle bronc with a ride of 60 points and Huntley Byrd won the pole bending.


 Louise DeLong placed seventh in pole bending and Jorja Mashburn was 12th.


Louse DeLong and Henry Buchanan were third in ribbon roping at 33.410 and Taylor Hill and Wyatt Hurt were seventh and Logan Marshall and Kylie Velasco were ninth. Ben Marvel and Macy Marvel were in the top 10 in ribbon roping as well.


Hazen Root won the rifle hoot, while Wyatt Thomas, Logan Marshall and Ben Marvel were sixth, seven and ninth in rifle shoot.


Huntley Byrd and Lane Byrd were second in team roping and Jorja Mashburn and Lauren Goings were fifth.


Logan Marshall placed second in tie-down roping.
