Battle Mountain girls track and field team wins Eureka Invitational

After a week off, the Battle Mountain high School track and field team was back in action at the Eureka Invitational on Friday afternoon. 

The Lady Longhorns won the team title on the girls side with a handful of first-place finishes.

Senior Jolena Ayers won the 100-meter dash (14.0) and was second in the 200 meters (28.0) and second in the 400 meters (1:04.8). 

Jennifer Galvin won the 1,600 meters in a time of 6:43.7 and was fourth in the shot put (26-8) and 11th in the discus (65-7). 

Freshman Danielle Madalena was second in the 3,200 meters (16:39.6), third in the 1,600 meters (7:03.2) and sixth in the 800 meters (3:20.1), which was a personal best.

Freshman Ivy Peterson earned a runner-up finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 1:02.7 and she was 10th in the 100-meter hurdles (23.7).

Lindsey Bleak was second in the triple jump at 28-2.25), a personal best and teammate Bailey Elderkin was third at 27-6.5. 

Bleak was fifth in the 100 meters (14.8) and 10th in the 200 meters (32.9), while Taylor Clark was third in the 200 -meters (29.9), a personal best and sixth in the 100 meters (14.9). Bleak placed 10th in the 200 meters with a time of 32.9).

Alexis Record placed fifth in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 25-8 and the sophomore was 10th in the discus at 69-10, another personal best. 

Lilly Peterson placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles at 21.4.

The 4x200 relay of Elderkin, Sonja Sherve, Tessa Ostler and Clark were first at 2:21.2. 

The 4x400 relay of Anai Gonzalez, Andrea Alcaraz-Lopez, Ostler and Ivy Peterson won with a time of 6:12.2.

 The 4x800 relay of Oster, Alivia Liebhardt, Ivy Peterson and Madalena won at 14:02.1.

On the boys side, Sean Bengoa and Kodee Ray tied for fourth in the 100-meter dash at 11.8 and Armando Eusebio was 11th (12.3). Eusebio was fifth in the 200 meters in a time of 24.5 and Bengoa and Ray tied for sixth at 25.3. Scott Wall set a season-best time of 26.0 to place 11th in the 200 meters.

Andy Wall was the runner-up in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 18.9 and the junior was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles (50.8). Freshman Joey Smith placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (19.7) and he was ninth in the 300-meter hurdles (53.8).

Ben Disbro was third in both the shot put (37-9.25) and the discus (106.5) and Andres Molina was fifth in the discus with a personal-best throw of 98-11. Sophomore Christopher Zamarripa was 11th in the discus (84-7) and Leo Mathias was 14th at 7-8. Both of those throws were personal bests.

Bengoa (5-8), Blake Stuart (5-6) and Alex Wall (4-10) were third, fourth and ninth in the high jump. Stuart set a personal best in the long jump with a leap of 17-2 to place fourth and Ray (16-8) and Eusebio (16-6) finished seventh and eighth in the long jump.

Stuart placed third in the triple jump at 37-2 and Alex Wall set a personal best at 29-9 to finish 11th in the triple jump.

Battle Mountain was fourth in the team standings with 75,5 points. Lincoln County was first at 127, followed by Spring Creek (93) and West Wendover (80).
