Pershing County baseball team dunks North Tahoe

The Pershing County High School baseball team headed to spring break with two more league wins to their credit. 


The Mustangs hosted North Tahoe for a doubleheader on Saturday. Lovelock won both games (21-8, 4-1).


The Mustangs improved to third in the 2A, behind West Wendover (8-1) and Yerington (7-2). Lovelock now stands at 10-7, overall, and 7-3 in the 2A.

North Tahoe


The Mustangs scored a season-high 21 runs against North Tahoe in the opening game on Saturday.  Blake Burrows started the onslaught by singling on a 3-2 count in the first inning.


The Mustangs seized control for good in the sixth inning. Noel Zaldivar, Wyatt Diaz and Ayden Montes each singled. Tyler Miller walked. Lovelock tallied 15 hits and stole 11 Burrows accounted for three.


Trenton Rhodes surrendered four runs on four hits over three innings, striking out five.




PCHS wins nightcap


Each team tallied four hits but the Mustangs came out on top. Lovelock scored on a Laker error in the first inning. The Lakers answered with a groundout to tie the score at one. The Mustangs pulled ahead with two runs in the third inning. 


Diaz went two-for-three at the plate to lead Lovelock in hits. Burrows surrendered one run on three hits over six innings, striking out eight.


Pershing County hosted the Yerington Lions on Tuesday. Results were not available at press time. They'll finish up the 3-game series at home on Saturday at 10 a.m. and noon.
