Annual Basque dinner slated for April 22

The 7th annual Jackson Mountain Homemakers Basque Dinner will take place on Saturday, April 22, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Orovada Community Hall in Orovada.

Although the venue has moved, the event will continue to feature a delicious meal of homemade lamb stew, chorizo, Basque beans, potatoes, salad, bread, wine and desserts.

The evening will include a raffle and live auction with entertainment provided by the Winnemucca Irrintzi Dancers. Tickets are available at the door for $15 (ages 13+), $8 (ages 6-12) and ages 5 & under free. Your ticket purchase will include a chance to win a handmade denim quilt.

Hosting this annual event is the Jackson Mountain Homemakers, a non-profit organization of local women dedicated to helping the community, local rural schools, and those in need.  Founded in 1978, all proceeds earned by the Jackson Mountain Homemakers go directly to assisting those in our community.

Members hail from a variety of backgrounds, ranging from traditional homemakers and ranchers to career women. For 45 years, this group has been active in providing financial assistance to local people.

Most recently the group has helped multiple individuals and families-in-need, including those with cancer, various tragedies, and illnesses. Additionally, the group has helped our community in other ways by providing funding for uniforms to youth sports and the purchase of a new refrigerator for the Denio School.

Be sure to mark your calendars for April 22 to help support this charitable organization with a night of delectable food, fun and entertainment.
