Aguirre, Jeronimo win at Galena Invite

Lowry High School’s Nomar Aguirre and Jesse Jeronimo pick up individual victories this past Saturday, as the Buckaroo track and field team traveled to Reno for the Galena Invitational.


Aguirre led the way in the shot put with a toss of 47 feet and half an inch. Jeronimo set a personal best in the discus to win with a throw of 151-5.


Shaun Gilliland set a season best mark in the pole vault at 11-6 to finish second, with teammates Kaid Sanchez fifth at 11-0 and Shane Gilliland (10-0) in eighth. 


Carson Primeax was 15th in the pole vault at 8-6, a personal best for him. Sanchez added a 15th-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 17-6.5.


Deven Gomez finished 11th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.77 seconds and the senior was 22nd in the 300-meter hurdles at 48.99. 


Ryder Huitt placed 24th in the 300-meter hurdles (49.32).


Tyson Terry turned in a ninth-place finish in the discus with a throw of 118-2.5 and he was 20thin the shot put at 37-7.25. 


Sophomore Austin White placed 19th in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-0and Corbin Berezay was 22nd in the triple jump at 30-10.5.


Lowry was ninth in the team standings with 32 points. McQueen won the team title with 101 points, followed by Galena (94.5), Bishop Manogue (82), Reed (77) and Douglas (63). 


On the girls side, freshman Kiana Head finished fifth in the high jump with a height of 4-6 and she was 13th in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 29-1.


Senior Sydnee Pettis placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 14-10 and she was eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.29, her quickest time of the year.


Sophomore Ashlyn Bottoms placed eighth in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 7-0 and she finished 32nd in the 100-metr hurdles with a personal-best time of 20.71.


Kepa Hilbish was 18th in the 100-mewter dash (13.78), a personal best and she finished 22nd in the 200 meters at 28.99. Isabella Bartell (68-6) finished 18th in the discus, Carsyn Sanchez (65-0.5) was 20th and Kailani Rodriguez placed 23rd in the shot put at 22-10.


Lowry was 12th in the team standings with 8.5 points. Reno won the team title with 124 points and Douglas (107) was second. Spanish Springs (98), Galena (76.5) and McQueen (63) rounded out the top five.


Lowry travels to Reno on Saturday for the Hug 9 Invite. The Buckaroos host their home meet on Saturday April 22, at 9 a.m.
