The Nevada High School Rodeo Association made a top in in Fernley at the end of March, with local cowboys and cowgirls atop the standings once again.
Battle Mountain’s Amelia Lancaster, Italy Jo Holman and Desi Coombs were first, second and fifth in the pole bending average.
Lancaster won the first performance with a time of 21.455 and won with an average time of 42.509. Holman had an average of 42.514 and Coombs at 49.216.
Amelia Lancaster and Eli Lancaster were fourth in team roping with an average of 22.020, which included top-10 finishes in each performance.
Coombs placed eighth in the barrel racing average at 41.607, including finishing third in the first performance.
She knocked down a barrel in her second run. Holman was 13th in barrel racing and Amelia Lancaster 16th.
Amelia Lancaster placed fourth in breakaway roping at 7.86 and Coombs was seventh with an average of 14.530. She won the second performance at 1.83, the quickest run on the weekend.
Lovelock’s Miranda Draper was eighth in breakaway roping at 9.78.
Humboldt County’s Ashley Rookstool and Matti DeLong were first and second, respectively.
Rookstool won the first performance and had 142 points and DeLong was a point behind with 141. Amelia Lancaster was ninth in girls cutting. DeLong added a seventh-place finish in the goat tying average.
Humboldt County’s Brynn Barto placed second in the breakaway roping average at 5.83.
She was the runner-up in the first performance at 2.94 and fourth in the second performance at 2.89. In addition, Barto was 17th in goat tying at 23.850 and 21st in pole bending.
Humboldt County’s Natalie Mori finished fifth in the reined cow horse average with 265.5 points and 12th in girls cutting.
Battle Mountain’s Eli Lancaster shared the top spot in boys cutting with Fernley’s Kade McKnight with 143 points. Lancaster won the second performance with a score of 73 points,
Battle Mountain’s Flint Schacht was second in bull riding with a score of 71 in the second performance. Wells’ Jack Dukes won with a ride of 72.
Humboldt County’s Billy DeLong won the saddle bronc with a ride of 66 points in the second performance.
DeLong was the runner-up in steer wrestling. He had no time in the first performance but came back to place second in the final performance in a time of 5.87.
DeLong turned in two top-five finishes to place third in tie-down roping at 27.480. He was eighth in boys cutting.
Humboldt County’s Cooper Hill placed fourth in boys cutting with 138 points and was seventh in team roping, along with Wells’ Maddie Rockwell.
Junior High Results
In the junior high division, Humboldt County’s Taylor Hill won the first performance of barrel racing at 18,384 and was second in the average. Battle Mountain’s Jorja Mashburn was 16th in barrel racing.
Humboldt County’s Lane Byrd, Bryce Fears and Wyatt Thomas were fourth, 11th and 13th in boys breakaway and Battle Mountain’s Logan Lancaster was sixth.
Lane Byrd placed sixth in boys goat tying, while Logan Marshall and Bryce Fears were second and 10th in chute dogging.
Three girls were in the top 10 in breakaway roping, with Taylor Hill fifth, Huntley Byrd sixth and Louise Delong 10th. Jorja Mashburn was 16th in the event. Battle Mountain’s Landry Meiman placed third in girls goat tying and Jorja Mashburn was 14th in the event.
Huntley Byrd won the pole bending average at 42.093, including a victory in the first performance as well. Jorja Mashburn was fourth.
Lane Byrd and Jorja Mashburn were fifth in ribbon roping and Bryce Fears and Jordyn Process were seventh.
Humboldt County’s Hazen Root won the rifle shoot and Huntley Byrd, Lane Byrd were fourth in team roping. Jorja Mashburn and Lauren Goings of Fallon were fifth in the event. Bryce Fears placed seventh in team roping.
Logan Marshall finished third in tie-down roping.
The Nevada High School Rodeo Association was in Spanish Springs this past weekend.
Humboldt County holds its rodeo on May 5-7 and the regular season concludes on May 12-14 in Wells.
The state finals for high school and junior high school will be May 25-29 at the Winnemucca Event Center.
