PCHS baseball drops three to West Wendover

The PCHS baseball team's seven-game winning streak screeched to a halt this past weekend.

The Mustangs traveled to West Wendover to face one of the top teams in their league, West Wendover (8-1).

PCHS lost all three games of the triple header (12-2, 15-0, 9-2).

The Mustangs now stands at 8-7 overall and 5-3 in the Northern 2A. The Mustangs are fourth in the league.

Pershing County traveled to Incline on Tuesday, for the third game of a series.

The Mustangs won the first two games against the Highlanders (12-7, 12-8). Tuesday's results were not available at press time.

"We had a tough weekend. We definitely had our opportunities as we left 19 runners on base. We have to learn ways to get a portion of them to score when we have those opportunities. It was good for our kids to play a top team in the division and see what we are trying to be," coach Jared Jensen said.

Pershing County battled, especially in the last game of the series. The third inning ended tied at one.

The Mustangs saw the ball well, collecting 11 hits. Blake Burrows and Taylor Montes led with two hits each.

Wyatt Diaz handled the pitching. He surrendered eight runs on nine hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out seven.

"We had one bad inning or we were right in that game," Jensen said. "We are still learning to play a complete game start to finish. We're looking to rebound this week as we have three big games against the Lake schools."

On Saturday, Pershing County hosts North Tahoe at 10 a.m. and noon.
