After 12 days off, the Lowry High School softball team got back on the field for three games in Elko last week.
The Lady Bucks opened with a 7-4 win on Thursday and split Friday’s contests, winning the opener 16-6 and dropping the second game 5-4.
The Lady Bucks are 9-2 overall and 2-1 in the Northern 3A East.
The games were set to be played in Winnemucca but a early-week snow storm left the field unplayable.
In Thursday’s opener, Bree Dunckhorst struck out 11 of the first 12 Elko batters and finished the day with 17.
The 17 strikeouts are tied for eighth most in a single game in Nevada history.
The Lady Bucks broke open a 3-0 lead with four runs in the sixth inning and held on as Elko scored four times in the seventh and had the tying run at the plate. Megan Cook had two hits.
In Friday’s first game, Elko led 2-0 after the top of the second, when Cook put the Lady Bucks in front for good with a grand slam in the bottom the second.
Lowry scored six times in the inning to lead 6-2.
Elko rallied with three runs in the third inning to close the gap to 6-5 but Lowry plated eight runs in the fourth inning.
Cook had three hits and seven RBI and Natalya Guizar also added three hits and two RBI.
Shelbie Hoyt and Cambria Tisue each had two hits. Maddison McClure, Crisslyn Rodriguez and Jada Matheny each had one hit.
Savannah Stoker earned the win in the circle.
Stoker allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits. She struck out 11 and walked one. The junior helped herself out with a hit and two RBI.
Lowry built a 4-0 lead in the series finale but could not hold on as Elko tied the game in the fifth and scored the winning run in the sixth inning.
Cook, Hayden Case, Guizar and Presley Hayes each had a hit. Dunckhorst suffered the loss.
She allowed five runs (two earned) on seven hits. She struck out 11 and walked three.
Lowry was scheduled to travel to Reno on Tuesday for a non-conference game with the Huskies. Results were not available at press time
