Hinkey wins discus at Laker Invitational

The McDermitt High School track and field team made its way to Pyramid Lake last Thursday for the Laker Invitational.


Sophomore Kess Hinkey won the boys discus with a toss of 104 feet, 5 inches. He added a third-place outing in the shot put with throw of 35-5.


AJ Farmer placed 10th in the shot put at 27-11 and was 13th in the discus with a throw of 63-7.


Sierra Lutheran won the team title with 156 points and Wooster (145.5) was second. 


Smith Valley (82), Pershing County (77) and Mineral County (58) rounded out the top five. McDrmitt tied for seventh with 16 points. 


On the girls side, Cierra Smart earned a third-place finish in the discus with a throw of 7-2 and the freshman was 13th in the long jump with a leap of 9-11.


Loni Tobey finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 66-3 and the sophomore placed 10th in the shot put (22-1). 


Kiarra Crutcher placed 11th in the shot put (21-7), 12th in the long jump (10-0.5) and 13th in the discus (52-11).


Sierra Lutheran won the girls team title as well with 150 points. Wooster was second with 81 points and Whittell (61) placed third.  




McDermitt competes in Battle Mountain


The Bulldogs traveled to Battle Mountain on Friday and Hinkey placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 35-7 and he was ninth in the discus at 96-3. 


Farmer finished 23rd in the shot put (27-11 and 31st in the discus (66-3).


On the girls side, Tobey turned in a eighth-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 67-5 and she was 10th in the shot put at 23-1.


Crutcher placed ninth in the shot put at 23-4, 15th in the long jump with a mark of 9-2 and 22nd in the discus with a throw of 56-4.


Smart was 16th in both the discus (58-9) and the long jump at 9-0.


McDermitt travels to Idaho on Friday, April 14, for the Middleton Invitational.
