Battle Mountain Junior High wrestlers compete in Tah-Neva Championships

The Battle Mountain High School junior high wrestling team was in Lovelock at Pershing County High School on Saturday, March 25, for the Tah-Neva Championships.


In the eighth-grade division, Lance Stewart at 70 pounds and Levi Baker (145) won individual titles for Battle Mountain.


Stewart cruised in his first two matches with pins over Ryder Segura of Oasis Academy and Kael Sisley of Winnemucca. Stewart beat teammate Grady Tolbert for the 70-pound title. 


Tolbert won matches by a 11-7 decision over Bryley Harrison of Churchill County and a 6-4 overtime win over Anthony Nunez of Yerington.


Baker pinned Carson Valley’s Maximus Auchenbach in the quarterfinals and earned decision wins over Jesse Reiner of Paw-Wa-Lu in the semifinals and Eagle Valley’s Noah Ramos (9-5) in the championship. 


In addition to Tolbert, Raiden Dominguez at 135 pounds and Evan Gallegos at heavyweight placed second. 


Dominguez collected a 5-00 win in the quarterfinals over Samuel Lopez of Carson Valley and he advanced to the finals with a pin over Carson’s Sirus Hayes. Dominguez lost in the final to Fernley’s Jayse Jones.


Finn Bundrock (90) placed third and Donovan Gilbert (80) and Elijah Ceja (85) were fourth.


Cristian Pacheco, Cash Buchel and Kaiden Elder also wrestled for the seventh-grade squad. 


Riley Jung wrestled in the eighth-grade division at 120 pounds.


In the girls division, Anna Pineda finished second at 130 pounds. She opened with a 9-2 win over Natasha Sanchez of Pa-Wa-Lu and reached the finals with a 4-0 victory over Marisa Ramirez of Pershing County.


Shyan Gilbert placed second in the 150+ weight class, earning two pins over Kaydance Marcus of Silver Stage and Peyton Benson of Fernley.


Emily Gallegos was fourth at 150+ pounds and Zoey Lewis wrestled at 150 pounds.


Battle Mountain finished third in the team standings with 116.5 points.
