On Saturday they beat the visiting Yerington Lions 4-1. That’s six more goals for the Mustangs, bringing their total to 14, about four more than this time last year.

Lovelock beats
Battle Mountain
On Wednesday, Sept. 21, fans packed the stands and made their voices heard. Dozens of Mustang volleyball and football players danced to Ne-Yo and Pitbull’s Time of Our Lives and sang happy birthday to Blake Burrows, a senior football player.
Battle Mountain also sent a sizable group. Both teams responded to the encouragement of their respective home crowds.
In the last moments of the first half, Lexie Portillo sent a through pass to Miya Gallagher.
She shot to the left side of the goal and scored for the Mustangs.
Early in the second half, Yasmin Acosta corner kicked to Portillo. She trapped the ball and sank it into the left side of the goal.
However, Battle Mountain was relentless. The game was fast-paced and competitive from beginning to end. The Longhorns scored with 18 minutes left, turning up the pressure for the rest of the game.
Spectators had the feeling it could go either way.
However, the Mustang defenders kept Battle Mountain from scoring another goal. The Mustangs walked off with the Homecoming win.
Acosta and Gallagher each score two goals against Yerington
In the first half against Yerington, Acosta passed to Gallagher, setting her up to score the first goal of the game.
Two minutes later Acosta drilled a 25-yard shot with another loose ball, bringing the score to 2-0 at the half.
In the second half, Acosta dribbled a loose ball past a couple of Longhorn defenders and scored her second goal of the game.
About five minutes later, she passed to Gallagher, setting her up to score her second goal of the game.
“Cheers to Miya and Yasmin for each scoring two goals. Yerington scored on a tough defensive play, but the ladies stepped up and did not allow any more goals,” Matt Fuller said.
On Saturday, Pershing County hosts the White Pine Bobcats at 9 a.m. The Mustangs have been looking forward to the rematch.
When Lovelock traveled to Ely on Sept. 3, the Bobcats won 3-1. The first half ended tied at one but the Bobcats sank two goals in the second half.
