The Lowry High School girls golf team was back on the course last week for a pair of tournaments in Lyon County.
The Northern 3A made a stop at Dayton Valley Country Club, in Dayton, one of the toughest courses on the schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 20. Lowry finished sixth as a team with total of 526.
Douglas, the defending state champion, continues to dominate the Northern 3A and won with a 340, beating South Tahoe by 128 strokes at 468.
The Tigers had four players shoot in the 70s or 80s. Truckee was third at 482 and Elko (498) and Fernley (512) rounded out the top five.
Douglas’ Giana Zinke was the low medalist at 78 and teammate Madison Frisby was second at 88. Fernley’s Nadia Velasquez was third with an 86.
Lowry’s Katie Cassinelli tied for with Truckee’s Ashley Estabrook, as bot players shot 100. Jordyn Medicine Cloud shot a 136 for the Lady Bucks, followed by Lainey Novacek (140), Isabella Bartell (150) and Kailani Rodriguez (154).
Lowry finishes sixth in Fernley
The following day, the Northern 3A was in Fernley and Lowry improved its score by more than 50 strokes but still placed second at 467.
Douglas had the top three individual finishes to win the team title with a round of 336. Elko jumped to second place at 437 and South Tahoe (441), Truckee (445) and Fernley (457) completed the top five.
Zinke, from Douglas, was the low medalist at 83, followed by teammates Abby Miller (83) and Frisby (84).
The Lady Bucks’ Cassinelli tied for sixth with a round of 90 with Douglas’ Abbigail Detsch. Medicine Cloud shot 104 for Lowry, followed by Rodriguez (132), Novacek (141) and Bartell (145).
The Northern 3A does not have a postseason regional tournament and three state tournament teams are decided by the final point standings.
Douglas is on top with 33 points and South Tahoe (27.5) and Truckee (24.5) are second and third, respectively. Elko is fourth with 21 points and Lowry (16) is fifth.
Lowry hosted its tournament at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course on Monday and traveled to Fallon on Tuesday. Results for those tournaments were not available at press time.
The Northern 3A travels to Truckee on Oct. 10, and South Tahoe on Oct. 11.
