Lara leads the way for Lowry cross country team at Truckee Invitational

After having its last two meets canceled to due smoke in the Reno/Lake Tahoe area, the Lowry High School cross country team was back on the course this past Saturday in California at the Truckee Invitational.

Lowry senior Ivan Lara led the way for the Buckaroos with his 34th-place finish in the boys varsity race with a time of 18 minutes, 32 seconds. 

There were 119 runners in the varsity race, with runners from more than 20 teams.

Mountain View’s Evan Markelz won the race at 16:26, followed by Damonte Ranch’s Jackson Elliott (16:48) and Douglas’ Jackson Davis (16:48).

Galena won the team title with 57 points and Spanish Springs (75) was second. Douglas (125), Carson (150) and Mountain View (156) completed the top five.

The Lowry boys had three runners compete in the 500-meter, JV race.

Freshman Jace Frydendall topped that group with a time of 24:26. 

Junior Keaton Kenison stopped the watch at 24:42 and sophomore Lennox Zebroski had a time of 24:56.

Wooster sophomore Atticus Reyher won the race in a time of 18:32, with Oakmont’s Xavier Royer finishing second at 18:53.

Oakmont won the team title with 28 points and Galena was second at 35.

The Lady Bucks’ Maria Hernandez ran in the JV girls race and was 10th in a time of 24:54 on the 5,000-meter course. 

There were 91 runners in the race.

Galena sophomore Alexa Cudy won the race at 23:00 and teammate Mia Kobs was second at 23:38.

Pleasant Grove claimed the team championship with 28 points and Galena was second at 52.

Lowry did not have a runner in the girls varsity race, which was won by Galena’s Eleanor Raker with a time of 19:08. Her teammate, Alyssa Bronander was second at 19:54. 

Galena won the team title with 35 points and Carson was a close second at 45.

Lowry is busy this week, which started with a trip to Sparks on Tuesday to make up the postponed Reed Invitational. 

Results were not available at press time. The Buckaroos are in Elko on Friday for the Run the Rubies Elko Invitational.

Lowry will be home on Friday, Oct. 7, for its invitational at the golf course.
