The Battle Mountain NNA swim team fought through smoky conditions and canceled events as it traveled to Minden from Sept. 16-18 for the Molly Lahlum Memorial Autumn Freeze.
The events for Friday, Sept. 16, as the air quality hit 350, an unhealthy number for the swimmers to compete.
There was a three-hour delay on Saturday, Sept. 17 and conditions greatly improved on Sept. 18. The older swimmers did not compete at the meet.
The Battle Mountain swim team would like to thank Michelle Hall, for her time she puts into our swim team and all the traveling she has to do to be with them at every meet, its a year around sport and it takes a lot of time.
Daxon Bakker competed in the boys 9-10-year-old division and was sixth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 3 minutes, 31.54 seconds.
He placed 10th in the 50-yard backstroke at 53.70 and was 14th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:43.48).
Michael Lovelace finished 15th in the boys 15 and older group with a time of 3:32.88, a 2.57 second improvement. He was 16th in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:59.59, 23rd in the 100-yard butterfly (2:24.99) and 25th in the 200-ayrd individual medley (4:41.50).
Nevaeh Serna moved up an age group to the 11-12-year-old division and was fourth in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:48.94.
She also placed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:34.26. Serna was third in the 50-yard backstroke at 35.60 and was fourth in the 100-uard backstroke at 1:19.39.
Serna finished seventh in the 100-yard freestyle (1:09.52), the 100-yard breaststroke (1:37.11) and the 50-yard freestyle (31.15).
She placed ninth in the 50-yard breaststroke (44.12) and finished 14th in the 50-yard butterfly (39.81).
