Battle Mountain drops four-set match to Pershing County, beats Coral Academy

The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team wrapped up a six-match road trip that took up all of September with two more matches on the road last week.

The Lady Longhorns was in Lovelock on Thursday, Sept. 22, to take on rival Pershing County and the Mustangs won on their homecourt during homecoming week 25-18, 19-25, 25-21 and 25-20.

Senior Cristian Holley collected seven of Battle Mountain’s 12 kills, while fellow senior Shea Jones added three and Olivia Lemaire two.

Jones picked up five aces, Heidy Amezcua added three and Lilliana Haney one. Holley, Lemaire each had two blocks and Amezcua had one.

Amezcua dished out six assists and Emely Farias had one assist.



BMHS sweeps 

Coral Academy

Battle Mountain closed out the road trip on Saturday in Reno with a three-set sweep of Coral Academy 25-18, 25-23, 25-12.

Holley and Lemaire each had four kills on the day and Jones and Galilea Benavidez had two kills and one, respectively.

The Lady Longhorns was dominant from the service area with 19 aces, including 12 from Jones. Holley had three and Haney and Farias two each. Lemaire added two blocks and Holley also had a block. Amezcua picked up eight assists and Farias three.

Battle Mountain starts a stretch of five consecutive matches at home this weekend, starting at 4 p.m. with the JV against Silver Stage. 

Yerington visits Battle Mountain on Saturday at noon with the JV and varsity to follow.
